I used a tool called AutoXray to read the stored engine code. The mass air flow sensor is going bad, and I've done everything possible to treat the symptom short of replacing the sensor. I'm going to be poorer close to $250.
All in all, though, I have a good car. In two years, and by 200,000 miles, the only parts that have gone bad were the PCV valve, the fuel pressure regulator, and the mass air flow sensor.
Despite its problems, Subies are wonderful cars.
